Important Information Before You Start

Accufine 20 mg contains Isotretinoin, a powerful medicine used to treat severe acne.
This medicine can cause serious birth defects if taken during pregnancy.
Women must not take this medicine if they are pregnant or may become pregnant.

What Accufine 20 mg is used for

Accufine is prescribed for the treatment of:

• Severe nodular acne
• Cystic acne
• Acne that has not responded to antibiotics or other treatments

How to Take Accufine 20 mg

• Take exactly as prescribed by your dermatologist.
• Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water.
• Take with food or with a meal containing fat. This helps your body absorb the medicine better.
• Do not chew or crush the capsule.

Usual Dose:

• The usual dose is 0.5 mg to 1 mg per kg of body weight per day.
• Most adults take 20 mg once daily or 20 mg twice daily (40 mg/day).
• Treatment usually lasts 4 to 6 months.
• Your doctor may adjust the dose based on your response and side effects.

Possible Side Effects

Very Common (may affect more than 1 in 10 people):

• Dry lips, dry skin, dry eyes, and dry nose
• Chapped lips, nosebleeds
• Skin peeling, especially on palms and soles
• Increased sensitivity to sunlight

Common Side Effects:

• Headache
• Muscle or joint pain
• Hair thinning (usually temporary)
• Elevated blood fats (cholesterol and triglycerides)
• Elevated liver enzymes

Serious Side Effects – Seek medical help immediately if you experience:

Special Warnings

For Women:

• You must not get pregnant while taking Accufine or for 1 month after stopping treatment.
• Use two reliable forms of contraception during treatment and for 1 month after.
• You will need regular pregnancy tests.
• Do not breastfeed while taking this medicine.

For Everyone:

• Avoid vitamin A supplements (including multivitamins containing vitamin A).
• Do not donate blood during treatment and for 1 month after stopping.
• Limit alcohol consumption (increases risk of liver problems).
• Use sunscreen and lip balm daily. Avoid sunbeds.
• Contact lenses may become uncomfortable due to dry eyes.

Monitoring During Treatment

Your doctor will ask you to have regular blood tests (usually monthly) to check:

• Liver function
• Cholesterol and triglyceride levels
• Pregnancy test (for women)

Storage Instructions

• Store below 25°C (77°F).
• Keep in the original blister pack.
• Keep out of reach of children.

What to Do If You Miss a Dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule.
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten capsule.
