Doxycycline 100 mg
Product Description
Doxycycline 100 mg is a broad-spectrum antibiotic from the tetracycline group. It is used to treat many types of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, sexually transmitted infections (chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis), acne, Lyme disease, and malaria prevention.
Dosage and Administration
Standard Adult Dosage:
- Most infections: 100 mg twice daily (every 12 hours) or 200 mg once daily.
- Sexually transmitted infections (chlamydia): 100 mg twice daily for 7 days.
- Acne: 50–100 mg once daily (usually for longer periods).
- Malaria prevention: 100 mg once daily, starting 1–2 days before travel and continuing for 4 weeks after returning.
How to Take:
- Take the capsule with a full glass of water (at least 200 ml).
- Swallow it whole. Do not crush or chew.
- Take while sitting or standing. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it.
- You can take it with food or milk if it upsets your stomach.
- Avoid taking it with dairy products, antacids, iron, calcium, magnesium, or zinc supplements. These should be taken at least 2–3 hours apart.
Important:
Complete the full course prescribed by your doctor, even if symptoms improve early.
Important Information
Do NOT take Doxycycline if you:
- Are allergic to doxycycline or any tetracycline antibiotics
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Are a child under 8 years old (can cause permanent tooth discoloration)
Warnings and Precautions
- Doxycycline makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Use sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and avoid prolonged sun exposure.
- Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, asthma, or a history of yeast infections.
- This medicine may reduce the effectiveness of hormonal birth control pills. Use additional contraception during treatment and for 7 days after.
- If you develop severe diarrhea during or after treatment, contact your doctor immediately.

Important Note
Doxycycline is an antibiotic and works only against bacterial infections. It does not work for viral infections such as colds, flu, or most sore throats.
